Class40
The long way down
After nearly two weeks of racing, including two or three full days and nights in La Coruña, for many of the Class40 racers the course is starting to feel a little long. Most say they are just focusing on taking things hour by hour, keeping the boat fast and making sure it’s going in the right direction and not counting the 1800 or so miles the leaders still have to go.
IMOCA
Smiles in the rain
They smiled and danced in the torrential rain. Nothing could suppress the joy or the desire to share all the details of their first Transat together as a duo, Violette Dorange’s first on a foiling IMOCA, Sam Davies’ ninth time on the legendary coffee route race.
It’s not the first time the 51 year old English skipper Davies has raced this Transat as an all-female duo, she did so in 2007 with Jean Gregoire when both climbing the learning curve together. But this time Davies – as well as loving has been focused on passing on her accumulated knowledge and the specifics of her powerful foiling Sam Manuard design to the 24 year old Dorange.
Finishing sixth, not far behind Justine Mettraux and Xavier Macaire, the Initiatives Coeur confirmed they were happy with the result, arriving on something of a high after passing Louis Burton and Clément Commagnac on Bureau Vallée in the final hours of the race

No rest on the Atlantic
In Martinique the TRANSAT CAFÉ L’OR Le Havre Normandie has just experienced 48 hours of madness. In this very short period of time the victory pontoon in Fort de France has welcomed 15 duos and three of the four podiums are completed. Phew!
Swiss skipper Justine Mettraux and her French co-skipper Xavier Macaire on Team Snef - TeamWork crossed the finish line at 0412hrs local time to take fifth place, 20 hours 57mins after winners Jérémie Beyou and Morgan Lagravière. They sailed a great race making good choices, drawing on Mettraux’s four years of experience with the former Charal.

Mixed emotions for Beccaria
Two winners from the last edition racing in the same boat, Italian Ambrogio Beccaria and his French co-skipper Thomas Ruyant on Allagrande Mapei, had high hopes of finishing on the podium of the 17th TRANSAT CAFÉ L’OR Le Havre Normandie, but they only just missed that target, taking fourth place into Fort-de-France at 16:54:19hs local time 20:54:19 hrs UTC.
Beccaria, who won Class40 on the last edition, and Ruyant who won the IMOCA class twice, back to back in 2021 and 2023, arrived at the line just under four hours after third placed Sam Goodchild and Loïs Berrehar (Macif Santé Prévoyance).
Theirs was a good humoured but emotional arrival back at the dock in Fort de France for the pair who have raced together most of this 2025 season, including the crewed The Ocean Race Europe and the Course des Caps.
Ruyant was bidding farewell to the IMOCA on which he raced the last Vendée Globe as well as winning the 2022 Route du Rhum and the last Coffee Route race, handing her over to Beccaria who will take the Koch Finot Conq design to the next Vendée Globe.
