Normandy a great area for water sports

The normandy region has supported the TRANSAT CAFÉ L'OR Le Havre Normandie since the 2017 edition. In 2019, it became an organizing member of the two handed transatlantic race alongside the JDE Group and the city of Le Havre.

The TRANSAT CAFÉ L'OR Le Havre Normandie helps spotlight Normandy as a great sailing area both nationally and internationally. It highlights the range and capacity of the sailing facilities, develops nautical activities and sources of employment for the region. And it supports the development of sporting talent.

Nautical events are part of the DNA of Normandy, events like the CIC-Normandy Channel Race, the Rolex Fastnet Race, La Solitaire du Figaro and L’Armada.

With its 640 kilometres of coastline, long beaches, big bodies of water both sea and inland, wind which blows through it in all seasons Normandy has everything to be a superb boating region.

Sailing in Normandy has 80 clubs, 26,000 members, 1 training center and numerous events on the coast and inland bodies of water.

And there is a great tourist potential of the region, dozens of ports, harbors and mooring areas on the coast and being close to England where sailing and boating is a major leisure activity also substantially extends the catchment area.

Boating is a driver for economic development in the region. To make boating a factor which enhances Normandy’s appeal and influence, the Region has adopted a nautical policy which enhances support for businesses, support for innovation, nautical tourism, the extension of boating for all and the creation of a center of excellence.

Normandy, via the Normandy Development Agency, must attract new businesses and support those that already exist today. Innovation in the construction of nautical equipment, research into new composite materials and the design and repair of boats are the major sectors.

 The Normandy Region is pleased to be a stakeholder, working alongside the Transat Jacques Vabre Normandie Le Havre for its 16th edition and its 30 years of existence and salutes the dynamism and involvement of the members of the Transat Jacques Vabre Normandie Le Havre Association and the Normandy sailing league heavily involved in the sporting aspect.

 

From October 17 to 26, in the race village, the Region will offer, alongside its partners, activities for eveyone.
