The losses continue for those Class 40 duos stranded in the light winds and calms that are plaguing the northern route to Martinique. Race fans will have see the images and videos from the likes of Michel Desjoyeaux (Trimcontrol) and Pep Costa (VSF Sports) of slatting, listless sails, the original ‘painted ships on a painted ocean’, whilst the southern group is moving well at double figures speed averages.

The IMOCA Café Joyeux,  skippered by Nico D'Estais and Simon Koster, crossed the finish line at 19:01:16 local time (23:01:16 UTC).
