J2 Jib Damage Aboard Class40 ZEISS

At 23:30 UTC, while sailing in 14th position in 25 knots of wind, Thimoté Polet and Pierrick Letouzé suffered damage to their J2 jib. The skippers are unharmed and continuing their journey to Fort-de-France.

Earlier in the night, while we were furling the J1 jib and unfurling the J2 in 25 knots of wind, the boat gybed in a wave during a thunderstorm. The boat heeled over, the sails flapping ,” reccalls Thimoté, skipper of the Class40 ZEISS. “The J2 jib is out of commission, but it should be repairable by the finish. We therefore had to continue through the night under J1 with gusts exceeding 35 knots. We are gutted by this situation and have lost a lot of ground in the process. For safety reasons, we will now take the southern route.” The boat is safe and the crew need to rest a bit, but the weather conditions are going to improve.

New leader in Ocean Fifty, Sodebo Ultim 3 is fast, playing the angles in IMOCA and Class40 after the front. The suspense is heightened this morning in all four classes of the TRANSAT CAFÉ L’OR Le Havre Normandie. At speeds that often seem quite unsustainable, no one is giving an inch, and yesterday's leaders are being challenged. Things are getting complicated in the Ocean Fifty class, where Viabilis Océans has taken the lead taking advantage of a sail failure on Edenred 5. In the ULTIM class, Sodebo Ultim 3 has made up half its deficit as the boats cross the Doldrums for a second time today. In the IMOCA class, Charal is sailing at full speed but just can't seem to get away from Macif Santé Prévoyance. With 48 hours to go before the first competitors arrive in Fort-de-France, nothing is decided, while in the Class40 class, the first weather front passed last night, providing a clearer picture of each boat's capabilities and intentions for the rest of the race.
