Since Wednesday, Élodie Bonafous and Yann Eliès have been facing a technical problem affecting the boat's performance. After attempting various repairs at sea, the duo decided to make a stopover to fix the problem in the best possible conditions.

Restarts
The compression at the Canary Island which the IMOCA leaders are experiencing because of very light winds was widely forecast pre-start last week before The TRANSAT CAFÉ L’OR started. Now the leaders are dealing with it. But first out into the trade winds will get a jump on the fleet. There is a new leader in the Ocean Fifty class. SVR Lazartigue has successfully repositioned with no loss and should extend ahead again in the ULTIM race and Class 40 are primed for tomorrow’s restart out of La Coruña

INTIATIVES COEUR
Hello
Tonight is the first night that is calm enough to write a message!! And the conditions are stable enough that I am not grinding every 5 minutes!
This break in the intensity of the race is a welcome one for our tired bodies after five days of pushing hard in some pretty violent conditions and also with a lot of sail changes or trim changes that have constantly required a lot of energy!
On board the vibe is happy and positive, we have really enjoyed every minute of this race so far and our boat is enjoying it too!
As things calmed down today we debriefed our first few days to see where we think we might have been able to do better and the plan is to apply that in the next section - always looking forward!
Unusually we have very light winds to pass the Canaries and we are going to see the fleet squeeze back together. We’re focusing on maintaining our position in the group and trying to catch the new wind as quickly as possible!
Light winds are frustrating, but the positive side is that it allows us to be on deck and enjoy the views. Just in the last few hours we have been treated with a dolphin jumping show, an incredible sunset and (right now) a sky full of stars! Just magic !!
Bonne journée!!

No half measures
One thing is for sure about the TRANSAT CAFÉ L’OR le Havre Normandie it doesn't do things by halves. Too much wind for the Class40s, who have made a stopover in Galicia, while four competitors are still trying to reach La Coruña in time for the start of the second leg at midday UTC tomorrow. And not enough wind for the IMOCAs, still bogged down in the Canaries ridge of sticky light winds. This is bringing a general regrouping for a new start full of uncertainties. The multihulls are the ones benefiting most this morning, as they prepare to cross the Cape Verde archipelago. The ULTIMs are already targeting the Doldrums and have veered sharply west. The Ocean Fifty boats, for whom the archipelago is a key feature of the course, will have no choice but to round them to the east tonight. They will have to be wary of their wind shadows, which can extend over 150 miles to the south, before setting course for Fort-de-France…
