French duo Jérémie Beyou and Morgan Lagravière (Charal 2) took the IMOCA class victory on the TRANSAT CAFÉ L’OR Le Havre Normandie double handed race from Le Havre to Martinque this Friday morning when they crossed the finish line at 05:15:18hrs local time 09:15:18 UTC hrs local time (minus 4hrs UTC).
Their elapsed time for the course is 11d 19h 45mn 18sec. It is Beyou’s first major ocean race win since 2020 whilst co-skipper Lagravière wins the IMOCA race for the third successive edition, a new record on this 17th edition of the biennial Coffee Route.
Victory is all the sweeter for the hugely talented, ultra competitive Beyou, who has won La Solitaire three times, but has struggled with technical problems – small and large – on many of his main IMOCA races. Recruiting Lagravière, who won in 2023 and 2021 with Thomas Ruyant, as co-skipper has contributed significantly to their success this time, as have technical advances which have given the powerful black hulled Sam Manuard designed IMOCA a speed advantage on this course.

THEIR RACE IN BRIEF

He's finally done it. For the first time since its launch in 2023, and for the first time in five years, Jérémie Beyou has won a transatlantic race. The skipper of Charal, so often a contender in previous races, can finally celebrate. His victory owes much to the dedication of the team that patiently worked to develop Charal2. Last winter, the IMOCA was even fitted with new rudders. At the same time, he convinced his friend Morgan Lagravière, an exceptional skipper, to join him. The duo made a flying start, notably leading from the Bay of Biscay to the approach of Madeira. But it was above all their tactical battle around the Canary Islands that proved decisive: they were the first to reach the trade winds before striving to widen the gap. Jérémie can finally exult while Morgan makes history by becoming the first monohull skipper to win the TRANSAT CAFÉ L’OR three times consecutively.
